Shooting a weapon consumes a certain amount of charge indicated by the charge meter, limiting how many times a weapon can be shot before needing to recharge the Gunboots via landing, stomping on enemies or doodads, or gems when the Gem Powered upgrade is active. The player always begins with eight units of charge at the start of the game.

Increasing the charge meter[]

During a run, the player can increase their maximum charge meter by:

  • Picking up gun modules (+2 charge).
  • Purchasing a Battery (+1 charge), Energy Drink (+1 charge), or Car Battery (+2 charge) in the Shop.
  • Achieving a 15-combo or higher (+1 charge)
  • Getting the tomato item (+10 charge)

Weapon charge consumption[]

Fast-firing weapons generally consume less charge, while slower-firing ones generally consume more. The table below shows the charge consumption of each weapon available in the game:

Weapon Charge
Machine Gun 1
Noppy 1
Puncher 2
Triple 2
Burst 3
Laser 4
Shotgun 5

For as long as the player has at least one more unit charge beyond the consumed amount, the weapon will still fire. For instance, if the player has eight charges, the remaining four units of charge will still allow them to fire the Shotgun one extra time before running out.

Trivia[]

  • The charge meter clusters units of charge depending on the current weapon according to their charge consumption. For instance, holding a Puncher will cluster them by twos, Burst by threes, Laser by fours, and so on.
